Well, well! Lots has happened since my last log. We went to my OB on the 8th and she asked us to come in on the 13th for induction. We were thrilled!
Monday the 13th we arrived, very nervous with family in tow, to Gulfport Memorial at 5am, as scheduled. They started the induction meds at 6:30am. By noon they started Pitocin because I was dialated 1cm. I started having a lot of back pain and the nurse adjusted my monitor to pick up these type contractions. Little did I know, Aiden was not "handling," these contractions and labor well. His heart rate was fluctuating. At 1pm or so the anesthesiologist began my epidural. I love that man! I was still dialated only 1cm, so I began to become suspicious that I might have a C-section. I knew from the beginning that this was a possibility, but no one wanted to say for sure. Aiden did not handle the epidural very well, either. By this time I had been made aware that he was having "distress," and that a c-section was highly probable being that he was already distressed at 1cm, much less the rest of labor. At 2:30 my nurse came in and told me that my doctor felt it was best to go on and proceed with a c-section. I was scared, but I difinitely agreed that it was the best option for Aiden. Anthony and mom, dad and Ashley were called in and Anthony was given scrubs for the occasion. I was in shock.
By 3pm, Aiden was brought into this world, all 7lbs 6ozs of him. He was 20 1/2 inches long with a head full of dark hair. I was given excellent medication and I barely remember anything else from that day other than seeing him in the operating room and holding him for the first time.
Recovery was rough, to say the least. I was doing well on Tuesday and then late Tuesday night I developed a fever (102.9) and became a little "loopy." My IV was put back in and the doctor order enough IV antibiotics to cure a small country. I had developed an infection from the surgery, according to my nurse it was in my uterus. Ouch.
I am feeling much better now. Still quite sore and still quite tired at times, but I sleep when he does and I get along just fine. Ashley, Mom and Ms. Cindy have been down helping us out, specifically helping me by washing clothes and helping with Aiden. We are blessed.
I will continue to keep you all updated as Aiden changes and delvelops. Right now, he is wonderful. He is a great baby. We are all in love!
Love,
Mandye
